The working groups of HSG

The HSG consists of multiple collaborative working groups dedicated to developing a comprehensive segmentation protocol for the hippocampus and MTL cortex. As a reference point for our proposed rules, we use histological annotations by leading experts on MTL anatomy. The proposed rules also undergo a collective evaluation by the broader community, enabling feedback and iterative refinement, if necessary. Our objective throughout this process is to foster effective communication and active engagement with the wider community. Additionally, we strive to facilitate accessibility to valuable resources that can aid individuals interested in MTL segmentation.

Active working groups

Histology Working Group

Aims to provide anatomical validity for the harmonized protocol through providing histological reference materials to our Boundary Working Groups.

Boundary Working Groups

Aims to develop a protocol for establishing subfield boundaries based on known anatomy. The group consists of several active smaller working groups targeting specific issues.

Head Group

Aims to develop segmentation rules for the inner and outer boundaries of the hippocampal head.

Tail Group

Aims to develop boundary rules for the outer boundaries of the hippocampal tail.

MTL cortex group

Aims to develop boundary rules for the entorhinal, BA35 & BA36, and parahippocampal cortex.

Questionnaire Working Group

Aims to develop and compile data that seeks to better understand current practices in HS segmentation and to assess agreement on the developed segmentation rules.

Communication Working Group

Aims to actively work with reach-out about the efforts of the hippocampal subfields group, bringing both news-related content and pedagogical content for members of the community.

Completed working groups

Acquisition Working Group

Developed and established recommendations for MRI acquisition protocols that are optimal for hippocampal subfield segmentation.

Boundary Working Group: Hippocampal body

Recently we finished the final assessments of the harmonized protocol for the hippocampal body. Below are listed the working groups that were specifically focused on this part of the MTL that have now completed their work.

Recruitment

Currently there are no working groups actively recruiting. However, if you are interested in participating in our efforts at some point, feel free to fill out the interest form below and we will consider you for future recruitments.

Examples of things we would like to know about: 1) Current research interests 2) Experience with the HSG community 3) What you can add as part of a potential working group 4) What sort of working groups you would be interested in.
